Reason for being a hot spotPoorly treated effluents are discharged into the Petrozavodsk bay that is the source of potable water supply. High nutrient load promote strong eutrophication in the bay.

Present statusIn 2011 the phosphorus concentration in discharged wastewater exceeded the MAC level by 43.6 times.
Joint projectsGrant and loan agreements signed in 2012. Reconstruction works of the wastewater treatment plant ongoing. Local financing 14 MEUR, NEFCO/NIB loans 11 MEUR, NDEP grant 5 MEUR, Finnish grant 2 MEUR.
Actions doneModernisation of the wastewater treatment plant launched.
