Reason for being a hot spotAmount of solid wastes in Arkhangelsk Oblast increased more than three times since the 1st NEFCO/AMAP Report.
Status in elimination procedureIn progress
Environmental status in 2003 report4.7 million tons of waste formed in the region.
Present statusIn 2011: 38.4 million tons of waste formed in the region, including 36.7 million tons of hazard class 5.
Joint projects 
Actions doneIn 2013, a concessional agreement (public-private partnership) was signed to create common waste management facilities (recycling stations and landfill) for the cities of Arkhangelsk, Novodvinsk and Severodvinsk. Half of the region’s population live in these three cities. Other actions have been, among others, pilot projects on source separation of waste in Severodvinsk.
