Reason for being a hot spotSubstantial amount of pesticides have accumulated and they are not in use. Since pesticides are toxic chemical substances, capable of affecting human health and the environment negatively, their storing and possible leakage in such amounts is a reason to establish an environmental hot spot.

Environmental status in 2003 reportAccording to the AMAP/NEFCO report, 40 tonnes of pesticides are stored in Arkhangelsk Oblast, partly in poor storage conditions.
Present status2011: No pesticides stored.

Actions doneInventory and laboratory studies. 67.53 tons of pesticides removed from the region and disposed in special landfills.
